The “PSU Terminal” is a brand new, state-of-the-art check-in terminal and airplane cabin simulator built for the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism (FHT) at the Prince of Songkla University Phuket campus in Kathu.
“The simulating room provides tourism and airline business students with a realistic airport environment,” explained Colin Law, an FHT lecturer, as well as the chairman for PSU’s Tourism Management Programme.
The terminal consists of check-in counters, a boarding gate and a section of a B737-MAX aircraft cabin and will be used to train students in FHT’s tourism management degree programme as well as transportation management majors.
“In order to develop a real simulation room for the students, all facilities are completed with 1:1 scale,” said Mr Law.
He noted that the cost of building the facility was about B10 million, and is the only of its kind in the southern part of Thailand.
“The cabin, which has been certified by Thai Airways, is the only one in Thailand to be designed to actual size,” he said, noting that other cabin simulators, such as those at Bangkok University, Suan Dusit Rajbhat and Si Pathum in the capital are larger than actual Boeing aircraft.
In addition to being used for PSU courses, the faculty will also be utilized by the Thai Flight Training Academy (TFTA) to offer cabin crew training programs.
Training will be offered by qualified trainers from Thai Airways International at both the PSU Terminal as well as TFTA facilities in Bangkok.
Colin added The PSU FHT has also been appointed as an IATA (International Air Transport Association) training centre to offer certification courses to all and any interested parties.
The IATA training centre, certification courses in aviation, tourism and cargo will be offered.
