In the brave new world of mass production, not only material objects are manufactured at factories – images and ideas are created in a similar manner. Just Google “Phuket” and enjoy the selection of identical “iconic images” of a tropical paradise complete with white sand, blue sea, a long-ail boat in the foreground and a lime rock in the background. This is Phuket as it is marketed to the world, and nobody actually cares that the scene in the picture is literally not Phuket but a different province. Feel Good Inc produces ideas for Dear Valued Customers just as Cadbury makes chocolate bars for them.

I have only met her in person once and it just so happened I was wearing a dress, false eyelashes, wig and gobs of makeup at the time. No, I wasn’t moonlighting in Bangla Rd; I was performing Widow Twanky in ‘Aladdin: A Christmas Panto’, at Underwood Art Factory. I instantly recognised her since we have been Facebook friends and have followed each other’s progress over the past few years, the reason being the similarity of our work goals. She is none other than the lovely Irish Vicki Kiely. I had the privilege of recently conducting a phone interview for this article with her. Here is what I learned.

However, at this moment things are brewing in the island’s thespian world with some real promise for the theatrical future of our beloved island!

I thought it might be fun and at the very least it would keep me busy along with the online theatre classes I was beginning to teach.

But there have also been a few times when the theatre has been closed for longer than that one rest day like in today’s world, sometimes for the selfsame reason.
